DIAGNOdent
Laser-Assisted Cavity Detection
DIAGNOdent is a hand-held pen-like tool that helps to detect decay. It helps to find and diagnose dental carries as well as periodontitis. DIAGNOdent works by measuring the density of the enamel of each of your teeth. It gives each tooth a number. This helps us to analyze and determine which teeth are weaker than others, and where to focus treatment efforts.
While a visual exam can help to find decay on the surfaces of teeth and X-rays are used to spot advanced decay or decay between two teeth, neither of these methods are very accurate at locating decay that has developed inside of the tooth. DIAGNOdent helps locate and analyze the decay in each tooth. DIAGNOdent uses pulses of laser light technology. When shined with these light pulses, decay in the tooth gives off a fluorescent light. The light bounces back to the DIAGNOdent sensor and is given a number. The higher the number that the light from the decay triggers, the more decay there is inside of the tooth.
DIAGNOdent is an incredibly powerful tool because it allows us to spot and treat decay that we would otherwise not be able to detect. When it comes to oral health problems, the earlier something is diagnosed, the better chance we have of treating it and in turn, saving the tooth. DIAGNOdent is helping us to preserve your natural teeth and to find problems early on before they have developed into anything serious.
DIAGNOdent is revolutionizing diagnostic dental technology by helping us to catch and treat problems early. With this technology, we are able to save and preserve more of your natural teeth.
